LifeXperiences has been operating as a Destination Management Company (DMC) on the Balearic Islands since 2005, and we have witnessed the growing environmental impact of tourism and consumption over the past 2 decades. As a company operating within the tourism industry, we recognise our responsibility in transforming the sector to become an impulse for environmental protection and sustainability.
For this reason, in 2017, LifeXperiences, led by its founders, supported and financed the establishment of the Cleanwave Foundation, dedicated to the scalable stewardship of marine ecosystems across the Balearic Islands, including solutions to reducing plastic waste and raising awareness.
Today the Cleanwave Foundation is an entirely independent entity, having established an extensive network of public water refill points across the islands, an impactful education program, and currently stewards the largest shallow coastal marine restoration site in Spain, including active and passive restoration of seagrass and seaweed meadows, with a vision to expand all initiatives across the Mediterranean.
LifeXperiences integrates all of the above into our events, as we commit to offering sustainable solutions and measuring the impact of groups and individuals during their visit to the Balearic Islands, in order to improve and optimise our positive impact.
The Cleanwave Foundation's purpose is to reconnect people with nature and to create a model scalable stewardship of marine ecosystems throughout the Mediterranean. This mission is built upon the “3R” approach to Regenerative Living:
RESTORING marine habitats through the MedGardens initiative, which focuses on the restoration of underwater forests with the aid of advanced technologies for precise data collection.
RAISING Awareness via the Cleanwave Education program, which includes environmental education in schools and specialised workshops aimed at the “invisible children” of Mallorca, who are at risk of social exclusion and to help foster community engagement and awareness.
REDUCING single-use plastic waste through the Cleanwave Movement, advocating for a culture of reuse and providing widespread access to plastic-free water solutions.
Moreover, in 2018, Cleanwave produced the award winning documentary ‘Out of Plastic,’ which has been showcased both locally and internationally, amplifying the message of environmental conservation and the power of each individual to make a difference.
